“I was itching to get back to work…”: David Sharaz on his first week at MIX Canberra

Staff Writer

Journalist David Sharaz is the new voice on MIX 106.3 Canberra’s Kristen & Wilko breakfast show, having taken on the role of newsreader.

After a week in the job, Sharaz told Radio Today that the new gig is living up to all his expectations.

“It’s great to have ticked off a full week already, and despite some sleep deprivation, I was itching to get back to work for round two over the weekend,” he said.

“Kristen and Wilko are a great team, a bit like the odd couple but it works and it’s a lot of fun to read the news alongside them.”

Having worked at WIN News Canberra, SBS, 2UE and Sky News, the journalist has shaken off the new job jitters and settled right in.

On deciding to join the MIX 106.3 team, Sharaz indicated that it was a no-brainer, with the lure of “no one day is ever the same” being a big reason behind his return to radio.

“Kristen has a passion for local news and telling people’s stories and Wilko is a seriously delightful human – we just clicked the moment we met,” he said of the brekkie hosts.

“It’s a big honour because I know how sacred that morning drive is, and I’m grateful and humbled by those Canberrans who decide to spend a few minutes with me as I update them as they start their day.”
