Irish radio hosts Dermot & Dave head Down Under

Popular radio hosts Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore from Ireland’s Today FM are embarking on a nationwide tour of Australia this month.

The duo will be following Ireland during the group stage matches in the Women’s World Cup.

With 30% of the Australian population claiming Irish ancestry, Dermot & Dave are keen to meet as many Irish abroad as they can find and ask them how they find living on the other side of the world.

Is the grass really greener? Do they miss their Irish Mammy’s cooking? Is it really like an episode of Neighbours? All these questions and more will be answered over the course of the tour.

The guys will touch down in Australia this weekend, and host their show live from several major cities – including Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.

They’ll be in the heart of the action for the group stage matches on Thursday 20th, Wednesday 26th and Monday 31st of July.

Managing the tour from the Australian side is producer Grace Garde – formerly of SCA’s Jimmy & Nath Show -based in Sydney, as well as Today FM’s Managing Editor and Australian abroad Fyona Smith, formerly Head of Radio & Podcasting AFTRS and now based in Dublin, Ireland.

Dermot and Dave say they’re really looking forward to heading Down Under.

“We cannot wait to go to Australia to cover the trip of the Irish Women’s National Team to the biggest football tournament on planet Earth.”

“We’re going to be their number one cheerleaders and we’ll be bringing you all the action from the matches. That’s not all, we will find every teacher, every nurse, there won’t be a person on the streets wearing a GAA jersey in Australia that hasn’t been wrestled to the ground by Dermot & Dave to be interviewed!”

Fyona Smith says “Two Irish guys in Australia, supporting the Irish Women’s National Team, whilst living in Airbnbs and trying to find ‘Summer Bay’ and quokkas is going to be quite the experience. Today FM is proud to support the Irish Women’s National Team. Game 1 when Australia plays Ireland is going to be intense!”
