Hamish & Andy reclaim no.1 spot in Australian Podcast Ranker

Hamish & Andy have reclaimed the number one spot for LiSTNR in the latest Triton Digital Australian Podcast Ranker.

Second is ARN’s Casefile True Crime, with the Kyle & Jackie O Show holding down third place.

The LiSTNR podcast network says it reached a new Australian record of 8.031 million listeners during March, an increase of more than 1.5 million, or 23%, over the month prior.

“This achievement recognises the undeniable and growing strength of the ‘House of LiSTNR’ strategy to produce, curate, distribute and exclusively monetise the best local and international podcast content,” it says.

LiSTNR has eight podcasts in the top 20, including 7am with Schwartz Media (in at number 8) CrimeJunkie, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Morbid, Just the Gist, It’s A Lot with Abbie Chatfield and SmartLess.

LiSTNR podcasts in the top 50 include Darling, Shine!, The Howie Games, The Briefing, Triple M’s The Marty Sheargold Show, Triple M’s Rush Hour with JB and Billy, My Favorite Murder, The Scorecard, 2 Bears 1 Cave with Tom Segura & Bert Kreischer, Chat 10 Looks 3, Triple M Footy AFL, The Mel Robbins Podcast and KICPOD.

Four LiSTNR podcasts made their debut on the ranker, including Sports Bizarre with Titus O’Reily and Mick Molloy, Just for Girls, The Deck Investigates and Levels Podcast.

As the footy season begins in earnest, Triple M Footy AFL and Triple M Rocks Footy NRL made its return to the Ranker, while WILOSOPHY with Wil Anderson also made a return.

ARN’s iHeart Podcast Network Australia has five of the top ten podcasts.

One of the biggest shifts saw The Imperfects rise six places to number #6 overall (#1 Health & Wellness) filling the MCG 5 times over, with half a million Australians listening monthly.

The Imperfects’ Hugh Van Cuylenburg says “These results are so exciting, but honestly the most exciting thing is working on a show that seems to be helping more and more people.”

ARN’s Casefile, the popular true crime podcast from Audioboom, is the second most listened to podcast (#1 Crime) with 929,935 listeners and 2.4 million monthly downloads; and Life Uncut with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne came in at #7 overall, increasing monthly listeners to 468,341 and 2.3 million downloads.

The Kyle & Jackie O Show was the #1 downloaded show with 3.9 million monthly downloads and 775,469 listeners.

Also in the Top 10 is Stuff You Should Know which sits #9 with 351,415 listeners and over 2.4 million downloads.

ARN’s Head of Digital Audio Corey Layton says “To hold half of the nation’s top 10 podcasts is an incredible credit to the shows that continue to capture Australian ears and brands each and every month. It’s also incredible to see the extraordinary growth of Australian podcast listening with downloads hitting a record 90.5 million in March, significantly up on the previous record of 80.5 million in February, showcasing the industry growing at pace.”

SEN continues to show significant podcast growth, with eight SEN podcasts appearing in the top 150.

With the unveiling of an all-new line up involving Garry Lyon, Tim Watson, Kane Cornes, David King and Nathan Buckley, SEN Breakfast was SEN’s most popular podcast throughout the month and 11th on the overall list with 1.12 million downloads.

The Whateley podcast also featured strongly Australian Podcast Ranker, with The Run Home With Joel & Fletch the most popular podcast from Sydney’s SEN 1170am programs.

Unique users also grew significantly throughout March for podcast use, increasing 26% year on year.

SEN is also congratulates Denan Kemp and his Bloke In A Bar podcast, sitting at number 17 in the rankings on Debut. SEN’s The Captain’s Run radio show’s podcast, hosted by Cam Smith and Denan Kemp, is heard on the SEN app podcast channel and also syndicates monthly through the Bloke In A Bar podcast channels.
