GfK Survey 4 preview: Can Christian make further inroads in Sydney?
If you’re struggling to wrap your head around the fact the mid-year metro radio ratings results are due out tomorrow, join the club (perhaps this bitingly cold Melbourne winter has partially frozen my brain).
And in the great tradition of Groundhog Day, much of the focus of GfK Survey 4 for 2026 will again be on how things are panning out for ARN’s GOLD and KIIS Network shows.
With ARN again having placed an MCG-sized portion of its available eggs in the networking basket, it will be counting on Christian O’Connell (main photo) to make further inroads with his new Sydney Breakfast audience – after a lift in Survey 3.
The first survey sans Kyle & Jackie O saw KIIS hold relatively steady in Melbourne Breakfast but plunge 3.5 share points in Sydney (-11.7 to 8.2%), shedding 122,000 listeners.
1116 SEN will be looking to capitalise on its doozy of a result in Survey 3, which saw the Melbourne sports station achieve a 6.0% share in Breakfast, to leapfrog both KIIS 101.1 and the ABC.
Brisbane’s radio landscape – and the continued flagging fortunes of Tapt Media’s 4BC – will again be under the microscope.
Expect plenty of attention too on the KIIS 97.3 Breakfast team of Robin Bailey, Kip Wightman and Corey Oates, following their much-publicised return to the airwaves in January, three months after the show was axed.
So far it hasn’t quite been the radio homecoming they’d hoped for.
Robin, Kip & Corey now currently sit fifth among the FM brekky shows after sliding 1.1 points to an 11.0 share in Survey 3.

By comparison, 4BH and ACE Radio favourite BBQ Bob moved beyond an 11% audience share in Survey 3.
The WA Breakfast radio scene is an interesting one too, with Mix 94.5 duo Pete & Kymba making steady ground on the longtime #1 team of Nova’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun.
GfK Survey 4 lands tomorrow (Tuesday, July 14) at 9.30am, and Radio Today will have all the results, analysis, spin and post-survey interviews here. See you there!
