Delivering Mel’s Christmas dream

Reporter

Mix 102.3’s The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show is joining forces with Power FM’s Molly & Craig for a very special show that will be simulcast across both stations today (Friday, November 18) in a quest to raise funds for former colleague and good friend, Mel Dee Dzelde.

Mel and husband Chris Dzelde are both well-known names within the Adelaide radio industry, having worked at various networks – including Mix 102.3 and Power FM – for over 30 years.

Sadly, although Mel has overcome cancer on three occasions, she has been diagnosed for a fourth time with Stage 4 rectal cancer.

Mel was dealt another blow when diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) last year. Following a recent fall where Mel broke her ankle, she was placed in the Mary Potter Hospice for recovery purposes. Unfortunately, her diagnosis of MND is slowly overtaking her body and her prognosis is not good.

Mel’s dream is to enjoy a big family Christmas, and while she can’t get home to celebrate, Mix 102.3 is bringing Christmas early to her and the people of the Mary Potter Hospice. In addition, Ali and the team at Mix 102.3 will be joined in studio by the Power FM Breakfast team today in a bid to raise funds and help ease some of the Dzelde family’s financial pressures.

Throughout the morning, some very special guests will be making an appearance including Mix 102.3’s Erin Phillips, singer Kate Ceberano, Adelaide Crows player Rory Sloane and musician Diesel; celebrities including Lauren De Cesare and Hayley Pearson from Adelady, cabaret superstar Hans the German, and TV and radio personality Anne Wills will be in studio answering phones and taking donations; and WSFM’s Amanda Keller will be auctioning off a money-can’t-buy experience in order to help her good friend Mel.

Today’s joint broadcast is taking place from 7-9am (ACDT) and can be heard across Mix 102.3 and Power FM.

You can make a donation by heading here.

Mel is such a wonderful woman with an extraordinary family and a truly amazing outlook on life. I have followed her, and have been a friend of hers for many years and wish only the best to her family and loved ones, and to Mel too, of course. May she keep smiling all the way to the end, and leave smiles behind with all who know and love her.

I used to work with Chris when we were both on air at 7TTT (SCA have rebranded it Hit 100.9). He’s a terrific bloke.

Am very sorry to hear this news.

My wife and I have you in our thoughts Chris. All the best, make every moment count. Kind regards Tony & Tina Ilian
