Could this be one of the best – or worst – radio giveaways?

It could be one of the best (or potentially the worst) prizes a radio station has given away.

New Zealand top 40 station The Edge is offering its listeners the chance to win flights and VIP tickets to the infamous Fyre Festival.

The event grabbed global attention for all the wrong reasons after its debut in 2017, with stranded attendees, damning documentaries and the subsequent imprisonment its founder painting a bleak picture of what was supposed to have been a lavish music festival experience.

Promotions boss Caitlin Coffey is hoping history won’t repeat itself for Fyre Festival 2.0, but the jury is still out.

“We don’t even know if it’s going to happen!” says Coffey. “There’s no set date, no headliners and we’ve paid thousands of dollars for VIP tickets that we don’t actually have yet!”

“There’s been a fair bit of back and forth with our finance and legal teams to get the final sign-off for us to buy these tickets due to Fyre 1.”

As you’d expect, plenty of terms and conditions apply.

“Basically, if you win and you’re stranded in the Caribbean questioning what you’ll have to do to get water like Fyre 1, that’s a big you problem!” says Coffey.

The Edge Breakfast with Clint, Meg & Dan had an exclusive interview with the founder of Fyre Festival Billy McFarland, who shared details about his time in prison, what went so wrong with Fyre 1 and what version 2.0 will look like

Breakfast co-host Meg Mansell acknowledged the human intrigue and success of the presales to date. “Some people would say, why in the world would you spend thousands of dollars to go to a festival that you know didn’t work the first time around?”

“But the thing is, people are curious.”

This time around, attendees are being promised an unforgettable experience filled with music, comedy, sports, and adventure.
