Ben Fordham farewells drive early ahead of 2GB breakfast debut

In one week Ben Fordham will make the leap from 2GB drive to the all-important breakfast shift on Sydney’s highest rating station.

The broadcaster, 43, revealed on Friday’s show that he’s taking one week off the air to prepare, farewelling the audience he has built over nearly a decade.

“Yes, it is time for me to say goodbye to the drive shift,” he said, “because I’m having next week off, before starting in the breakfast shift.”

Fordham thanked station management past and present, including Adam Lang and Tom Malone, outgoing breakfast host Alan Jones, and his team “who are coming with me, thankfully.”

Those staffers making the move to breakfast with Fordham are Sophia Grady, Cameron Reddin, Jake Lyle, Will Bottom, Liam McGuire and executive producer, Zac McLean.

He also thanked his family and, “most of all”, the listeners: “Thank you for giving me a go, thanks for supporting me, thank you for everything and please join me for breakfast June 1.”

As first reported by Radio Today last week, Wide World of Sport host Mark Levy will be taking the reins until a permanent replacement for both 2GB and 4BC is announced.
