ARN announces national regional rollout of The Smallzy Show

Reporter

ARN has today announced the continued expansion of The Smallzy Show, which will launch nationally across 21 ARN Regional stations from this Friday (May 15).

This Australia-wide rollout marks a major milestone for the show following its January debut on the KIIS Network.

In GfK Survey 2, it was crowned the country’s #1 Most Popular Night Show (7-9PM S/M/B/A) with a share of 10 (All People 25-54).

Hosted by Kent ‘Smallzy’ Smallwho joined ARN late last year after 23 years at NOVA Entertainment – the show delivers interviews with global stars including the likes of Paris Hilton, Billie Eilish, Robbie Williams, Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, in-depth debriefs on the latest pop culture news and exclusive access to money-can’t-buy fan experiences and prizes.

Now airing weekly on Friday nights from 7pm to 8pm across ARN’s regional footprint and on the iHeart app, the show will now further extend its reach to audiences nationwide.

Ahead of the expansion, Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small said, “This is a really exciting next step and was part of the plan when I joined ARN. Taking the show across the regional network means more people can tune in, feel part of it, and enjoy the same energy wherever they are. For listeners, nothing changes except the reach – it’s still the same show, the same fun, just on a bigger stage. For clients, it’s a huge win, giving brands the chance to connect with highly engaged audiences right across the country.”

ARN Chief Content Officer Kerri Elstub said“The continued growth of The Smallzy Show is a testament to the strength of the brand that Smallzy has created. He has such a unique ability to connect with audiences in a genuine and engaging way. His voice and relationships with both listeners and artists are resonating strongly across the country, and expanding into 21 additional ARN stations will see The Smallzy Show continue to build momentum and bring the show to even more Australians.”

The Smallzy Show 7pm-8pm can now be heard across the ARN Regional network on Power FM Bega, Power FM Muswellbrook, Power FM Nowra, Wave FM 96.5 Wollongong, Hot 100.1 FM Darwin, Hitz FM 93.9 Bundaberg, Star 102.7 FM Cairns, Star 101.9 & 90.7 FM Mackay and The Whitsundays, Star 106.3 FM Townsville, Hot 91.1 FM Sunshine Coast, Magic 89.9 FM Port Lincoln, Magic 93.1 FM Riverland, Magic 105.9 FM Spencer Gulf, Power FM Murray Bridge, Sea 101.7 & 107.7 FM Devonport and Burnie, 7HOFM 101.7 Hobart, Chilli 90.1 & 99.7 FM Launceston and Northeast, Power FM Ballarat.

True innovation from ARN…

I’m only really surprised it’s taken this long for “The Smallzy Show” to be rolled out to ARN Regional stations in some form. Would’ve thought they’d do that at the start of 2026 rather than waiting until almost halfway through the year!

Having counted nine separate brands for those 21 stations, part of me does wonder how long it’ll be until ARN rebadges all (or at least most) of their regional stations to either KIIS or Gold…which it must be said, is pretty much what SCA did with the Hit and Triple M brands a decade ago.

Not that I’d personally like commercial radio to become even more networked and homogenised than it is right now by any means. But from a business point of view, it probably would make sense for the branding of ARN Regional stations to receive some level of streamlining especially as their metropolitan stations have been under some form of standardised branding for about 25 years now!

Truly reinventing the wheel here ARN, inspirational stuff – we should buy shares in these go getters

It’s a much easier sell, if you take the time to learn the markets, when the stations have their own unique Identity.

I’d take a wild stab in the dark and say, ARN regional revenue fell off a cliff when all the regional radio people began leaving.

Doomsdaying from some people here. Regional has not had local Night shows for years and years… SCA has had Hot Hits/ Hot 30 for a decade odd, and ARN regional had KJ at 7pm until recently.

National outreach for brands, a punchy and concise entertainment centric show while not sacrificing local content. It’s not reinventing the wheel at all, but shows potential in maybe extracting a key few extra dollars from advertisers.

Re: regional station names – ARN has affirmed their committment to continued locality in brand identity, whether that holds up over time is yet to be seen. Again – KJ was ‘The Kyle and Jackie-O Hour Of Power’ tops and tails. I would expect similar of ‘iHeart Live with Smallzy’ or something to that effect. I would imagine any rebrands to be a kiss of death… there isnt enough money in the pot to bankroll a name change and the associated costs of renewing brand recognition

Tony, hardly a demise when it’s only an hour highlights show every Friday night. I believe these stations have only been playing presenter-less music every night from 7pm since KJ’s Hour Of Power finished.

To whoever’s replying to me: I get how a few of those brands (like 7HOFM and other callsigns) might mean something particularly special to a market. Obviously in those cases you’d be extremely careful about changing the brand, if doing so at all.

But others like Power FM (complete with a logo design that also belongs in the ’90s), Star and Hot seem to be rather generic radio station names. I’m less convinced there’d be market outrage if some of those were gradually phased out for more contemporary corporate branding.

Either way, I’d like to think it’s rather obvious by now that I’m not above criticising ARN (or any other broadcaster) when they make stupid decisions. It still astounds me that someone thought the destruction of WSFM was a good idea *and* that ACE Radio aren’t doing more to win those disgruntled 101.7 listeners over to Classic Hits 2UE, which is essentially allowing Nova Ent./Smooth 95.3 to enjoy most of the spills. But that’s a rather long rant for another time…

God this is grim. This show is borderline unlistenable. Someone needs to tell arn management that he just isn’t a likeable person. He isn’t a personality with any national interest.

I hesitate to write this because it’s so easy to be negative behind a keyboard but I’ve listened to the show and it’s just average. Not bad but not compelling either. I don’t understand the appeal apart from big name guests, but he doesn’t get the best out of them.

Lowie Live on the other hand would be better at an earlier timeslot where more people can hear him. With the demise of KJ I think it’s the best show on Australian radio right now. And no, I’m not Lowie or know him personally!
