Andy Lee gets new TV gig hosting The Cube Australia

Former Editor & Content Director

Radio and podcast star Andy Lee has a new solo TV project on Channel 10.

In 2021, he will host The Cube Australia – a competition in which contestants are put in a small, enclosed cube to take on “deceivingly simple” tasks.

The program originates in the UK. In Australia, there will be $250,000 up for grabs.

Lee currently appears alongside Hamish Blake on the weekly PodcastOne podcast Hamish & Andy, as well as the duo’s retrospective radio offering Hamish & Andy’s Remembering Project, which comes out on Mondays and Tuesdays.

He said he was relieved to be conducting this new hosting gig from outside the box.

“Things get tense with me and my mates when we play skill games to determine who’s going to get the next round of beers at the pub – imaging doing it for a quarter of [a] million dollars,” he said. “I can’t wait!”

Head of programming at 10 ViacomCBS, Daniel Monaghan, said Lee is one of the most popular and talented comedians in Australia, and the network is thrilled to have him on board.

“The Cube has been a huge success in the UK for years, and to bring this edge-of-your-seat game show to Australia for a local prime time version, with Andy Lee no less, is a fantastic addition to our 2021 schedule,” he said.

Lee will also serve as executive producer on the program.

His radio and podcasting counterpart, Blake, hosts the hugely successful Lego Masters on Channel 9.
