AFTRS students launch NEXT radio station

The AFTRS Graduate Diploma of Radio students are putting their broadcasting ‘chops’ to good use with the launch of the fourth and final assessment radio station NEXT.

AFTRS head of radio Fynona Smith believes it showcases the skills students have learned from industry professionals including 2CH GM Cherie Romaro, Kyle & Jackie O’s news reader Brooklyn Ross, Smooth 95.3’s Glenn Daniel and 2DayFM’s Ellie Angel.

“NEXT is a great platform for senior management to discover new talent on-air, off-air and online.

“We have a diverse cohort interested in pursuing careers in all aspects of radio including producers, music directors, announcers, audio production and original podcast content”.

NEXT is a contemporary hit and alternative radio station (CHR + ALT) with a target audience of 25- 39 years.

Content director and AFTRS student Grant Maling is proud of the product the cohort is producing on-air and online.

“NEXT has three original content podcasts online and also music features such as Album of the Week plus a No Repeat Workday.

“I can’t believe how far everyone has come during the past year, NEXT is sounding great and we’re all ready for the next chapter of our lives.”

NEXT runs for two weeks before the students have a week of work placement in various stations around the country.
