Advice Accreditation Bureau: Andy Procopis launches fake government agency for a very real problem
In an era where every scroll delivers another ‘life hack,’ comedian and ARN’s former Head of Branded Content & Influencer Network Andy Procopis has launched a new project offering something useful: clarity, comedy … and a little public service parody.
Introducing the Advice Accreditation Bureau (AAB) – a satirical government agency created to audit the deluge of modern-day advice flooding our feeds to determine whether it’s useful or useless.
What began as a Substack newsletter has quickly expanded into weekly short-form video investigations featuring guests from Australia’s comedy, music, and media scenes – from Mitch Churi (above) to Maddy Stokes.
Each week, Andy takes a piece of advice he’s seen, heard, or awkwardly been given at a party, and puts it through a bureaucratic assessment that usually includes:
A formal review of the quote, a deep dive into its psychological underpinnings, a case study from Andy testing it out in his own life and finally – a verdict: Advice Accredited or Advice Revoked.
The series blends curiosity, critical thinking, and humour – helping audiences laugh at their own self-development spirals.
With more than 20 years in branded content and creative strategy roles, three years in comedy and a fast-growing digital presence, Andy has a trained eye for cultural patterns. He recognised that audiences are drowning in advice.
“As online advice from influencers, self-help bros, and 19-year-old TikTok life coaches explodes, so does the confusion and burnout that comes with it,” says Andy.
“I love self-help, but even I reached a point where trying to optimise everything became overwhelming. The Advice Accreditation Bureau is my way of helping people laugh at the pressure. That’s the ambition: comedy that helps.”
Andy isn’t claiming to have all the answers, just the ability to question everything with comedic precision. And he’s thinking bigger:
“If all goes well, I’d love to follow in the footsteps of creators like Toni & Ryan and grow the AAB into a long-form video podcast. Maybe even get the accredited advice printed on tea towels, or tattooed across my rib cage.”
Earlier this year, after his ARN role was made redundant, Andy spoke of the importance of forging a version of ourselves that exists beyond our job title.
“Because jobs end. Roles get made redundant. And life? Life doesn’t wait. And neither should you.”
You can subscribe to the Advice Accreditation Bureau on Substack or follow it on Instagram.
As someone who has taken 15+ years of advice from Andy (less funny in the early days tbh), this is great to see!
Why is this today’s lead story?
OK but serious question: Where’s the podcast? I’d legit listen to this in audio LF. Make it happen people.
*people = literally any podcast network that’s clever
Snore
The best advice Andy ever gave me came from his time living in London …..
Actually, maybe it was Melbourne…..
Or was it his hometown of Brisbane??
Actually I think it’s where he currently lives in Sydney
Anyway….doesn’t matter, what he told me was……….
Oh, wait, I can’t remember
