ABC Listen’s record Ashes results

The Ashes cricket series between Australia and England has delivered record results for ABC listen, straight driving the app above half a million users for the first time.

The ABC’s coverage of Australia’s win in the First Test from 8-11 December attracted 2.7 million live streams across all ABC Radio services – up more than 17 per cent on the previous week.

ABC Sport was also in fine touch by generating 484,000 livestreams – an increase of some 1700 per cent on the previous week’s score of 26,000. Livestreams of ABC Sport’s coverage peaked at 140,000 on the first day of The Ashes, when Australia scuttled England for 147.

In total, 501,000 users tuned into the ABC listen app across the four days of play, to follow Australia’s win.

ABC listen will supply the goods once more when the second Ashes Test begins tomorrow.

The ABC will broadcast every match and every ball of the men’s and women’s Ashes this summer, live on ABC Radio, ABC Sport DAB+, ABC listen and via abc.net.au/sport.

Sports fans will also enjoy The Grandstand Cricket Podcast, with Corbin Middlemas and Ed Cowan reliving the highs and lows of the matches.

This summer, the ABC is also looking back on the history of the series with The Ashes Greatest Moments, which relives some of the biggest moments from cricket’s greatest rivalry.

Each of the 30-minute episodes includes original commentary from iconic Test matches and interviews with players and experts of the day and today.

The first three episodes are available on the ABC listen app: Headingly 1981Old Trafford 1993 and Edgbaston 2005. Additional episodes will be released throughout The Ashes series.
