Abby Butler and Tyrone Pynor take over triple j Drive

Abby Butler and Tyrone Pynor have been announced as the new triple j Drive hosts as Hobba & Hing say farewell.

Abby and Tyrone have hosted Friday Drive at triple j since the start of the year and will begin their run as full-time Drive hosts this Friday, August 11.

Butler started her radio career presenting and producing at Sydney’s FBi before joining triple j Unearthed and becoming a regular voice on Mornings, Home & Hosed, Unearthed Radio and Summer Arvos.

Now she can’t believe Drive will be added to the list.

“As the former 14-year-old who was late to school because she was calling into triple j to try and win bongos signed by San Cisco, it’s honestly surreal to be taking over Drive,” Butler said.

“The fact it’s alongside Tyrone, who’s conveniently both a radio star and one of my favourite people, is the best cherry on top.”

Tyrone started with SBS and NITV before taking over triple j’s Weekend Lunch and soul ctrl in 2021.

“If you had told me three years ago that I would be hosting Drive on triple j, the scream I would have scrumpt in your face,” Tyrone said.

“I’m so excited for so many reasons, and to be jumping into the Drive slot with Abby, I’m reminded that this means something bigger than just me. Winter is coming… or whatever that Lord Of The Rings quote is.”

Until the new pair come in, Hobba & Hing are attempting to complete their radio bucket before making way for the new hosts on Friday.
