triple j Drive hosts Hobba & Hing announce departure

triple j hosts Lewis Hobba and Michael Hing have announced they will be concluding their Drive show, making way for new talent to try their hand in the slot.

The pair made the announcement via Instagram, adding they will be touring the country for Hobba & Hing’s Last Show Ever to say farewell to listeners.

“We’ve loved doing the show the last three and a half years, doing this show, doing 700 shows for you,” Hing said.

“But its time for us to leave.”

One commenter on the Instagram farewell post joked, calling the pair, “The last geriatric millennials to leave Triple J.”

In a statement, Lewis Hobba said the role was his dream job, joining Drive with Veronica Milsom in 2015, before welcoming Michael Hing in 2020.

“Spending my afternoons with millions of friends for the past eight years has been a huge privilege. It’s brought me more joy than you can imagine (although sometimes you are super disgusting, you know who you are),” Hobba said.

“Thank you to everyone who got involved in our silly show; I have zero doubt that the wildest stories in the world come from Hobba and Hing listeners. It’s hard to leave the best job in the country, and I’m going to miss it so much. But it’s the right time to hand the keys over to someone else who will be as excited as I was when I got this job.”

Comedian Michael Hing seamlessly transitioned onto the show in 2020, bringing presenting experience from SBS current affairs show, The Feed.

The pair will continue working together on their new podcast, Silver Bullet, which launched on July 11 with three episodes dropping on the same day.

The new podcast sees Hobba & Hing try all the gadgets, hobbies, experiences, and wellness trends their celeb guests swear by to find the silver bullet that solves all their problems.

Guests on Silver Bullet include Grace Tame talking yoga, Abbie Chatfield on jaw massages and Chris Parker recommending float tanks.

In regard to Hobba & Hing’s Last Show Ever, the tour will visit Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Bendigo and Newcastle this August and September.
