‘A verb for connection. A noun for success’: Tapt Media rebrand now officially complete

Reporter

The transition is complete and the new logo has been rolled out, as Nine Radio officially rebrands as Tapt Media.

Today’s handover was celebrated with morning teas at each of Tapt Media’s radio stations. Incoming Tapt Media CEO Tom Malone then unveiled the new station branding, which has been widely shared across social media.

But for the Laundy family – who acquired Nine’s stable of talk stations in January – it’s more than just a change of logo … it’s about defining a new future.

Why the word ‘Tapt’? It’s both a verb for connection … and a noun for success.

“We set the agenda and lead the conversation.”

As Radio Today revealed this week, an updated news theme will be heard from next week and that the old name Sports Today will return, replacing the Nine Network’s Wide World of Sports name on the network’s evening sports show.

@Barry Farquhar: Really? I could see station logos being changed later on down the track to remove all remaining vestiges of the Nine Radio era however it’d be very surprising if the callsigns disappeared especially with 2GB’s 100th anniversary coming up in August!

Besides, callsigns were rather sensibly re-introduced by Nine to what are now the ACE-operated music stations following the failed Talking Lifestyle and Macquarie Sports Radio experiments in the final years of Singo/MRN ownership.

As far as the news theme is concerned, I wonder why they’re waiting until next week. At midnight, the former “Talking Lifestyle” News Theme was brought back and that really lacks the hard-hitting sound you’d expect for bulletins on stations like 2GB, 3AW, etc.

Even if an interim News Theme is needed before the new one is ready to air, surely the station’s pre-2020 news themes or one of many production library selections would’ve been far more appropriate choices? Right now, it’s arguable that ACE Radio’s music stations have more authoritative news themes (which OK, are a bit light – but still have a more appropriately “newsy” sound) than the Tapt Media talkbackers!
