“A fantastic day.” Nova’s Jase & Lauren back on top in Melbourne FM Breakfast

Reporter

The battlefield has changed yet again in Melbourne’s radio wars, and in spectacular fashion – with Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren back on top as the city’s #1 FM Breakfast show and Kyle & Jackie O still yet to make a dent with their new audience on KIIS 101.1.

The Nova team of Jase Hawkins, Lauren Phillips and Clint Stanaway were the big movers in GfK Survey 7, up 1.4 to an 11 share in Breakfast and gaining 34,000 in cume, leapfrogging the previous ladder leaders Fifi, Fev & Nick on The Fox, who now sit second (+0.2 to 10.2).

Nova’s Group Program Director Brendan Taylor says “Today is another fantastic day for our Melbourne breakfast show. To reach number one again against such strong competition speaks to our incredibly talented breakfast team lead by Jase, Lauren and Clint.”

“Across the country, all of our shows have held strong positions and we continue to have more listeners at breakfast than any other network, reflecting the strength of the Nova brand and the connection we have with our audiences.”

It was a good book for Gold 104.3’s The Christian O’Connell Show, up 0.9 to 9.2 and currently sitting third among the FM brekky shows.

Kyle & Jackie O remain a powerhouse team in Sydney Breakfast radio – still the #1 show, despite a slight fall in share this survey (-0.6 to 13.1).

However, they are still yet to resonate with their Melbourne listeners – dropping 0.1 to a 5.1 share whilst gaining 8,000 in cume. They currently sit 6th in Melbourne FM brekky.

Triple M enjoyed a 0.9 rise in Melbourne Breakfast to post a 6.3 share, with Smooth 91.5 dropping 0.6 in brekky to a 7 share.

At the ACRAs last month, Jase and Lauren were humble about their success on Nova so far.

How’s that networking decision going for you ARN?

Great work Nova.
Despite some in the industry rooting for them, claiming the KIIS breakfast show is still “bedding in”, millions of people are rejecting this so called “entertainment”.

I’m surprised Kyle and Jacki O are only doing a 5.1 in Melbourne, it’s a really good show I like it.

So, remember all those predictions earlier this year from the K&J cheer squad, that they’d rate really well because K&J were so successful and J&L were mid rating at best.

Funny that they’ve all gone quiet now.

Tacky Sydney radio networked into Melbourne will never work! Melbourne breakfast radio is fully catered for with the existing lineups providing what their respective audiences enjoy. Kiss executives have badly read the Melbourne market and the huge financial investment Kiss has made for these two ‘tacky presenters’ will never be repaid. The dichotomy in cultures that exists between Sydney and Melbourne are too vast. Kiss, save your money and pull the plug on this experiment, now!

Has ARN “promote K&J” at any cost, actually harmed them more by Kiis dropping down loads but also impacting Christian and GOLDs ratings as well? Because in a year they have gone from top to 3rd and Kiis is nowhere.

I’m from the UK and followed OC over after he left Absolute but now i listen to him and also J&L (started listening on Kiis and then followed on the move to Nova) via their podcasts.

@Left from the UK, absolutely the biggest collateral damage has been to Christian O’Connell. He was soaring the last few years, FM’s clear #1. His fall can only be attributed to ARN focusing all their attention, money and all their publicity on polishing the stink that K&J have in Melbourne.

And those who sacked Jase and Lauren are still in demand belive they ” made ” the right decision

And now listeners are bombarded with those two foul mouthed over paid ” presenters” all in the name of ratings which they aren’t getting
