Wave 96.5’s Mick Caruana gives away 100,000 cents as his car hits 100,000 ks
Several weeks ago, Mick Caruana from the Illawarra’s Wave 96.5 Drive Show realised that the odometer on his beloved Hyundai i30 was coming up to a special milestone: 100,000 kilometres.
A special motoring moment, Mick wanted to make sure he noticed when it happened.
After chatting about this on-air, Mick also realised his audience was heavily invested in seeing it too.

And so from that, Mick’s 100,000K Countdown was born.
Mick decided that he would drive his car in circles around a track until his car hit that special number.
But the best part was that listeners could grab a spot on the grid: when the car clocked 100,000 ks, the person on that part of the grid would win 100,000 cents.

Mick even managed to enlist professional driver Cody Gillis to take the wheel, while he broadcast live from the passenger seat.
On Monday, after 53 laps of the McDonald’s car park were completed in 26 minutes and 10 seconds, Mick’s car ticked over to 100,000 kilometres on spot number 5, with Ruth from Jamberoo winning the 100,000 cents.
