Melbourne listeners appear to have embraced long-time Sydney radio duo Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller following their much-publicised move from Breakfast to Drive on ARN’s Gold Network.

In the second metro radio survey of the year, Jonesy & Amanda grew their share on Gold 104.3 to be the overall #1 FM Drive show in Melbourne.

This year, the pair shifted to the later timeslot when The Christian O’Connell Show expanded into Sydney Breakfast.

Whilst O’Connell is still working to make inroads with his new Sydney audience, he has reclaimed the mantle as Melbourne’s #1 FM Breakfast show in the latest book.

Dave ‘Higgo’ Higgins (pictured above) is #1 FM in Mornings and Toni Tenaglia #1 overall and a whopping 4.7 points clear in Afternoons.

Gold 104.3 is Melbourne’s #1 FM station.

Celebrating the results on social media, Higgo said “Yes I’m bragging, because I’m so damn proud of everyone here. It’s not hyperbole when I say I work alongside the best people.”

“Kind, hilarious, supportive, and passionate. It’s a helluva place!”

Kerri Elstub, ARN Chief Content Officer, said: “GOLD Melbourne continues to be a juggernaut station, delivering its highest cume since 2023 and powered right across the day by a #1FM Breakfast show with Christian O’Connell and a brand‑new Drive show in Jonesy & Amanda that’s pulling ahead of the market in leaps and bounds.”

I predicted on a post on here they would be number 1 in Melbourne. Sydney not yet embraced their new time slot.

I knew Christian would struggle for a period of time.

Kerri Elstub can promote the ratings – good on you in one market – the reality is the commercial teams can’t sell the Gold network or Gold in Melb at a level that will compensate for the KIIS downturn – never have – more revenue heartbreak ahead

All things considered, Jonesy & Amanda aren’t performing too badly at Drive in Sydney. 3rd overall, is mostly where they hovered in the ratings during later years at breakfast.

However, the market which heard them on breakfast for two decades probably has noticed that the J&A program now heard on Drive isn’t quite the same one they woke up with for all those years. A number of long-running/popular segments (Magnificent 7, Jalmanac, Gets My Goolies, Fight For Your Flashback and probably others) at breakfast, did not come over to the new timeslot.

Those observations aside, one wonders what ARN will do with Gold brekky if Christian O’Connell continues to not gain significant market traction here in Sydney. As things stand now, he’s only 15k ahead of Beau, Cat & Woodsy on Triple M in the cumulative ratings while both stations sat on 5.5% between 5.30am and 9am this survey. Prior to this year, you have to go back almost a decade, and a number of Triple M brekky shows ago to find a time 101.7 was outrated (however briefly) by 104.9!

Glad to see Amanda (national treasure) and Brendan rewarded with #1 in Melbourne Drive. If ever a networked breakfast show from Sydney was to work in Melbourne it would have been with them. That should have been obvious and is vindicated with this win in Drive. Who are the executives with so little real market understanding? Save some money and get someone in with a radio feel… we need a modern day Lee Simon or Barry Bissell.
