Vanessa Gibson appointed SEN News Director
Vanessa Gibson has recently been appointed to the newly created position of News Director at Sports Entertainment Network (SEN).
Speaking with Radio Today, she expressed her excitement about the role and the opportunity to grow SEN’s news.
“SEN hasn’t had a News Director until now, so I’m thrilled for our experienced & hard-working team that SEN has acknowledged the value the role will bring to the network,” Vanessa said.
“It’s exciting that we now have 4 journalists based in Brisbane, with decades of combined experience, as well as other equally-dedicated journalists around the country and in New Zealand.”
“I hope to be able to grow and develop the team, and continue to deliver a really high-quality brand of news across the SEN stations.”
Based in Brisbane, Vanessa was a Journalist and Newsreader at 4KQ for many years before it was acquired by SEN in 2022.
She says the takeover has given her the opportunity to indulge her sports-loving side more.
“As a long-time Brisbane Lions fan, and sport-lover in general, it’s just a lot of fun to work at a sports network and get the chance to cover the wide variety of sports and topics that come up, as well as the standard news of the day,” Vanessa said.
“I enjoy the challenge of covering both the Queensland and New South Wales markets, and I’ve loved getting to know the passionate teams both in Brisbane and around the country.”
In the year since 4KQ was acquired by SEN, Vanessa says the quality of news at the network has been gaining momentum.
“I think SEN has come a long in the past year in the quality of the news and I hope that can continue to develop, and that we can continue to set a high standard and develop new talent at a time where the role of journalists is being diversified a lot,” Vanessa said.
When Vanessa doesn’t have her head buried in the news, she’s focusing on her other love – Christmas.
Vanessa is also one-half of the Christmas podcast, Christmas Podding, which recently finished celebrating Christmas in July.
“While sport and radio news are two of my passions, Christmas is another, and I love the opportunity to switch out of news mode and have some fun co-hosting Christmas Podding,” Vanessa said.
“It’s a fun side hustle, and my radio experience is a great foundation for being a podcaster.”
