Vale Niven Boyd

Staff Writer

Niven Boyd was one man who lived and breathed radio. It is sad to report of his sudden passing on Friday. Niven loved his coffee and dropping the f-bomb, but more he loved the business.  Niven was Operations/Program Director of Grant Broadcasters 5AU, 5CS and Magic FM Port Augusta.

The family of Niven Boyd wish to extend an open invitation to all to come and celebrate his life at his service, taking place on Wednesday November 4 at 2pm in the Westland Hotel Function Room in Whyalla SA. More details below.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

If you have a photo of our beloved Niven that you would like to share in the commemorative slideshow, please forward it to [email protected] by Friday afternoon (30/10/15)

Please join his family, friends and colleagues as we celebrate and honour our mate Niven.

The family would like to request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a charity in your local community, as Niven loved to help every group in need

Niven was a familiar face every year at the Commercial Radio Conference and ACRAs. Many got to catch-up with Niven while on the Gold Coast.

Michael Moffett shared with Radio Today his post on Facebook:

“In March 2004 I moved to Port Augusta to work at 5AU and Magic105.9. As we left Port Pirie, over the train line out to the highway I still remember Kernas saying ‘soon you’ll meet Niv, he’s not like anyone else you’ll ever meet, and he talks really fast’. I remember that day arriving, standing in the studios at Denton Court trying to keep up with the pace of how fast he spoke. I remember always purposely being loud at work in the morning to try and wake him so I could have a chat, or the late nights sitting out the back talking about everything. He was one of my biggest supports through a tough time when I moved back to Brisbane in November 2005. Some 10 years later and Niv was always someone at the end of the phone I could call to get things clear in my head. Always concerned that I was happy, pushed me to take the next step…even just 2 months ago, and here I am. He had a great way of putting things, usually including the word f..k, a coffee and a dart. My last time spent with Niven was just 2 weeks ago on the Gold Coast…at Sizzler… A moment I will never forget… And DSyer… Next time it rains anywhere, it will be referred to as ‘wet stuff’ R.I.P. Niven Boyd”
