Vale Ken Sparkes

Staff Writer

Reports that Ken Sparkes has sadly passed away overseas.

In a career that saw Ken as one of the youngest announcers on 2GB at the time at age 19, his career started at age 16 at 2MG. By the mid 1960’s Sparkes was on nights on 3UZ Melbourne, which dominated the market. His voice also took him to KGBS AM/FM Los Angeles for a couple of years. He would later return to 3UZ in Melbourne after covering Vietnam followed by a long stint at 2UE Sydney until 2007. But his voice would be most recognizable as the feature voice talent for the Nine Television Network Australia.

In recent years Ken had a strong following with his Jukebox Saturday Night program on Foxtel Aurora. It is believed that Ken was on a cruise ship tour for Jukebox Saturday Night with his daughter when he suffered a heart attack in the early hours.
