Update on the ‘I love Star FM Dubbo!’ guy

Staff Writer

Remember this guy from a month ago ?

Brad Guy took a slightly unusual approach to his job application to do breakfast at Southern Cross Austereo's Star FM in Dubbo.

Last reports were that he was being considered for the role.

However, Star FM Dubbo Content Director Dave Evans has told us he didn't end up going with Brad but has definitely flagged him for future positions.

Instead, they have appointed Alex Mitchell (right) who is moving from Power FM Muswellbrook to join Kellsey on breakfast.

So where does that leave Brad ?

Radio Today caught up with the 21 year old to find out what's happened over the past month.

Brad: I was just so overwhelmed to have my talent validated for the first time. I am pretty young but I’ve worked extremely hard and I got sick of everyone saying ‘yeah you’re on the radar’ or ‘send us your aircheck’ so I had to do something different and I knew that I had the resources to put something together like this (the video here).

I thought the job would have been perfect for me but there were obviously other candidates with more credentials than myself.

When Dave told me the news I told him I was incredibly disappointed I didn’t get it. But the experience has been good and I’m glad I’ve got that exposure behind me for future openings.

I did get a few emails from other stations, some from Hobart, Sea FM on the Gold Coast and other stations emailing ‘did you get the job ?’.

Radio Today: we understand one job offer came to do breakfast at 92.9 in Tamworth, what happened there ?

Brad: Yeah I took the job and they were really keen on me and I was excited to get up there. But due to family circumstances I’ve had to stay in Melbourne. It’s been really awkward timing for me trying to crack the industry. It was so hard ‘coz I had that job, I had the dream, everything I had worked so hard for, I had it !

It was hard to then call them and say I can’t take it.

Radio Today: what’s next then ?

Brad: Right now I’m going to plug away at some video’s, I’m taking on more of a leadership role at the community radio station, doing some more producing, trying to get more skills in more rounded areas so when different doors open up I can get my foot in there somewhere.

If you want to get in touch with Brad you can email him here or hear more of his work here.
