Triple M’s Marto ready for Classic Rugby Spectacular

Staff Writer

Former Wallaby players, Jeremy Paul and Triple M’s Greg “Marto” Martin are the first legendary Australian Rugby names to be announced to take on legends from the British & Irish Lions Friday June 21.

Triple M’s Classic Rugby Spectacular 2013 will take place at Ballymore on Friday June 21, on the eve of the Wallabies v British & Irish Lions Test in Brisbane.

This epic clash of former international rugby greats will see the Classic Anzacs go head-to-head with the British and Irish XV, and follows in the bone-crunching wake of the March 2011 Triple M Classic Rugby Game between Australian and New Zealand greats to raise funds for people of Christchurch following devastating earthquakes – this was an event that sold out and raised over $600,000.

Triple M’s Classic Rugby Spectacular 2013 will raise funds for Mates4Mates, a not for profit organisation established by RSL (Queensland Branch) to provide support to wounded or injured members of the Australian Defence Force and their families.

The Grill Team’s Marto, the brains behind the 2011 Classic Rugby Match and the captain of the Australian team in that clash, said it was only the cause that has prompted him to once again boot up and don the jersey.

“The 2011 Classic Rugby match was one of the toughest matches I’ve ever played because we took on the Classic All Blacks who were younger and gave us a real touch up. This time, we’re playing with them as Anzacs, I’m picking a younger team, and we’ve got more time to prepare. This will definitely be top-shelf Rugby.”
