Queensland’s first commercial radio station Triple M Toowoomba 864AM (formerly 4GR) marked its 100th birthday in style last night, with a packed celebration at The Powerhouse.

Hundreds of guests, past and present staff, and community leaders came together to celebrate the station’s role in shaping the region’s identity since 1925.

The night was a raging success with speeches from long-time announcers and special guests, as well as a live performance by Aussie rock icons The Screaming Jets, led by Dave Gleeson.

Triple M Toowoomba took a trip down memory lane in the lead up to the event, with Breakfast host Lee Faulkner interviewing former station favourites including Graham Healy, John Fielding and Kim Stokes.

The celebration was just the beginning of a week of birthday events, including a special outside broadcast and acoustic set from Gleeson at Grand Central Shopping Centre today,

Ken Wood, SCA Executive General Manager Queensland, said “Triple M Toowoomba is 100 years young and is a station known for its energy and enthusiasm. This station has been the heartbeat of Toowoomba for a century – from its inception as 4GR to its current form as Triple M. It’s been great to take a trip down memory lane and celebrate this historic milestone with plenty of cake and balloons.”

Blair Woodcock, SCA Head of Regional Content, said “It’s a testament to the legacy of Triple M Toowoomba – formerly known as 4GR – how this community continue to rally around this station. We’re so proud to celebrate 100 years of being live and local in Toowoomba and excited about continuing the deliver engaging, entertaining content to The Garden City into the future.”
