triple j’s Liam roasted by Socceroo hero Mark Schwarzer

They say you should never meet your heroes, and that old adage rang true for triple j Breakfast’s Liam Stapleton this week who was recently left burnt after interviewing former Socceroo Mark Schwarzer.

Last week dual Australian world-cup keeper Schwarzer came in to chat with Ben and Liam, and Liam revealed that he’d “single handedly inspired me to be come a goal-keeper.”

Schwarzer’s response was swift and brutal. “I’m just looking at your height and that seems to be a bit of an issue.”

Liam was heartbroken, especially as he had brought in several photos of the two together taken from his childhood.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, the incident was brought up on World Cup television show From Russia With Love.

“You can actually pinpoint the exact moment where his spirit broke,” said host Mel McLaughlin. “You killed him.”

“I was just being honest and I actually thought I let him off quite lightly,” said Scwarzer.

“And the other thing is he was quite stalkerish. He had a lot of memorabilia of me.”

“That’s being a fan isn’t it?” said McLaughlin.

“Yeah but the one that really stuck out for me was he had a photo of my car and it was in a carpark,” Schwarzer said.

Brutal.
