triple j has revealed the key dates surrounding its annual Hottest 100 countdown event.

For the third consecutive year, the countdown won’t be held on Australia Day. The countdown of 2019’s biggest hits will take place on Saturday, January 25.

The date was moved after a poll of listeners in 2017 found that 60% wanted the date changed as it was insensitive to indigenous people and their supporters.

Two days later (Monday, Jan 27) will see a countdown of songs 101-200 that didn’t quite make the top 100.

triple j has also announced a new charity partner; Greening Australia. The charity run tree-planting projects across the country to restore natural environments.

The new partner was locked in after triple j’s audience indicated that climate change was the most important issue facing them.

Donations are being taken now and over the voting period.

Voting for the Hottest 100 opens on Thursday, December 16 and closes on Monday, January 20.

It can be heard online, on your radio or via the triple j app.
