Toowoomba Ratings: Hit 100.7 surges as Triple M tumbles

Former Editor & Content Director

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) had a mixed result in the latest ratings out of Queensland’s Toowoomba region, with its Hit 100.7 station easily winning the race.

30.4% of surveyed listeners said they listen to Hit 100.7 the most, up 3.9 points from the last survey in September 2018.

SCA stablemate Tripe M 864 Darling Downs, however, slipped 5.9 points to just 5.4%.

ABC Southern Queensland, meanwhile, was down 0.9 points to 13.2%, while 4WK was down 1.5 points to 3.9% and 4AK was up 0.3 to 2.0%.

Triple j remained steady on 6.6%.

The trends across SCA’s stations were replicated in the Breakfast slot, with Hit’s syndicated Cliffo & Gabi program with Guy Clifton and Gabi Elgood, sitting on 31.7%, up 3.8 points from the last survey’s 27.9%.

Triple M Breakfast with Lee Faulkner, meanwhile, slipped 5.7 points from 11.0% to 5.3%.

In Drive, the difference was even more stark, with Hit climbing 5.9 points to 37.6%, and Triple M falling from 8.8% to 3.5%, a decline of 5.3 points.

In terms of cumulative audience, Hit gained 17,200 to sit on 87,100, while Triple M lost 9,900 giving it 24,400.

Looks like commercial AM radio is in a bit of strife in Toowoomba. I’d be curious to know how River 949 fits into the equation. So what’s happened to the once high rating 4GR? Mmm, I’ll leave that for others closer to the game nowadays to come up with reasons. But with the current figures, it won’t be long and it will be keeping Uncle Bill’s two AM offerings company.

Massive “other” station figure in that survey. Would love to see what River 94.9 rates as that would be the majority of the “other” station figure. It would beat the three AM stations easily. Tragic result for the once great 4GR. Re-branding an AM station like 4GR to Triple M – what a joke.

With totals adding up to about 65% that must leave pretty much River 94.9 “not rating” but being listened to by more than the top rating included stations (excluding community stations)

With the Brisbane FM stations being too far away, The only other station with a chance of reaching while not being duplicated locally, 4kq.

River should do a survey of their listenable areas. Would be interesting.

Power FM is a great station – long gave up 4GR and the rebranding has been a total failure.
