The Voice Referendum Explained: With Fran Kelly and Carly Williams

Journalists Carly Williams and Fran Kelly have teamed up for the new ABC News video podcast, The Voice Referendum Explained: With Fran Kelly and Carly Williams.

Over eight 15-minute episodes, the hosts will speak with First Nations Australians across the country to help answer questions about the upcoming referendum later this year.

The weekly series will explain what the voice is, why Australians have been asked to vote and whether it can improve lives.

“Like many major news events, the referendum is creating a lot of noise. It’s hard to see the forest from the trees sometimes.” said co-host Carly Williams.

“We wanted to create a space where people can find clear information on the Voice referendum in the one spot.”

“We offer more by taking the conversation beyond the newsmakers and hearing from a diversity of grassroots First Nations’ perspectives so audiences can feel informed on referendum day.”

Fran said it’s important to have the plenty of information in the lead up to making a decision.

“It’s been 24 years since Australia last held a referendum,” she said.

“I’m excited to be working alongside Carly to provide all Australians — especially the 6.4 million* who have never voted in a referendum before — the information they need to make an informed choice.”

The series is available on the ABC listen app and will be broadcast on ABC NewsRadio.

Video episodes will be available on ABC iview every Wednesday morning.
