The Hottest 100 weekend is ready to go

Staff Writer

Not only are triple j gearing up for a massive day on Sunday with their annual Hottest 100, but they have turned it into a 3 day party.

From 10am today they will replay the Hottest 100 from last year, then from 12pm AEDT Sunday they kick off the 2013 countdown. On Monday, triple j will then play the songs that just missed out on making it into the 100.

triple j are again asking their listeners to register their party and will provide a map so everyone can find a venue to enjoy the countdown (see below).

They are also making great use of numerous social media channels to keep listeners up to date so they don't miss a thing. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, Rdio, Spotify, Deezer and of course the triple j website are being used.

This year they received 1,492,619 votes by 173,658 fans in 169 countries.

What's in the list ?

  • 42 songs are from artists appearing in the Hottest 100 for the first time
  • The month in which the most Hottest 100 songs were released, above any other month, was May
  • Australian artists made up 44% of the poll

The Guardian have published this fascinating, although scary looking data graph, that analyses the history of the Hottest 100 since it began, allowing their readers to explore how our taste in music has changed over time. (click on the below graph to explore more)
