The Fox 101.9’s Nick Cody not impressed with Barnesy being Father of the Year

“If Jimmy Barnes can win Father of the Year then I might win a Brownlow!”

This morning on The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick, Nick Cody wasn’t impressed with The Fathering Project’s decision to name Jimmy Barnes the 2024 Father of the Year, alongside his son David Campbell.

Cody argued that there were likely more deserving recipients, saying:

“There are probably blokes in the car listening right now—single dads, their wives might be sick, and they’re working three jobs to keep a roof over their kids’ heads—but Jimmy Barnes—four mums, seven kids—is the Aussie Father of the Year.

Fifi Box added: “’Cause I love their story; I love that Jimmy and David found each other”

To which Nick replied:

“You know when I found my son? When he was born! I get that Jimmy had a brutal childhood and he’s worked so hard on turning his life around. Full credit to Jimmy Barnes – he’s an incredible muso, incredible talent, great bloke, but not Father of the Year.”

100% should have been awarded to unsung hero like for example a father that has 8 children has 2 jobs and trying to provide for them tens times better worthy contender end of story guaranteed!✈️

It’s ok. Jimmy is actually a Father. You don’t play AFL… So comparisons need a reality check for a start. It’s all just PR. The story about Jimmy and David – will get more clicks and interest than some bloke from Bathurst who saved his kid from a angry wombat… Although that would be quite a good read. Maybe I need better comparisons too.
