Radio rivals in epic rap battle
This week saw some high-profile radio rivals slog it out in a rap battle to remember.
The Nova 96.9 team of Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie were joined live in the studio by WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda.
The ARN duo – who were there to take on Fitzy & Wippa in Rap Up of The Week – also chatted about the secrets to their on-air partnership, their favourite guest of all time and which of their radio segments they love the most.
Fitzy remarked “You know what? In this industry, we’re supposed to be fierce radio rivals. But it’s hard to be rivals with these two, because we love them, and they’re good friends of ours, and this is where radio comes together.”
As for their rap showdown … well, it went a little something like this:
Jonesy & Amanda: WSFM, that’s a groove unless someone makes an offer and we move to Smooth.
Fitzy & Wippa are going to get their dessert because their jokes are worse than one of Jonesy shirts.
The two of us stuck around just like Corona. Kyle gets the real coffee. We just get Moccona.
I’ve done many TV shows to get some escape. Wasn’t Beyond 2000 also the name of Wippa’s daily calorie intake!
Fitzy & Wippa: Welcome to Nova WS. What does that stand for? Wrinkle, stress? Did you have your brekky? Prunes & Bran. Are you feeling nervous well here’s a bedpan!
Jonesy and Amanda, on WSFM, Playing all the hits from way back when, Got segments that’ll make you grin and smile, But Fitzy, Wippa, Kate—they’ve got more style.
Who is producing this show!?!?
What happened to the golden rule in radio of not promoting the opposition? Especially when the opposition is stomping on you in the ratings.
If you’re market leader, then maybe. I still personally wouldn’t.
I’m J&A and ARN loved the free plug.
@John I believe Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Richie were outrating Jonesy & Amanda at the start of 2024 while Nova Ent. was doing a particularly heavy ad push, but WSFM have bounced back during the last few surveys following the launch of their latest ad campaign + some interesting events happening on J&A.
Whatever the case, I certainly think Jonesy & Amanda won that rap battle.
