The ABC’s Unravel returns to investigate the past of convicted killer pilot Greg Lynn

The ABC’s true crime podcast Unravel returns to investigate the past of convicted killer pilot Greg Lynn. Unravel: Huntsman‘s six-episode season is hosted by Walkley award winning journalist Rachael Brown who was also co-host of the Mushroom Case Daily podcast.

Two campers, Russell Hill and Carol Clay, both in their 70s, vanished in Victoria’s High Country in March 2020. Clay was the secret mistress of Hill and the pair would encounter hobbyist hunter Greg Lynn, with a dispute between Hill and Lynn resulting in the deaths of the couple.

“My intention was to get rid of the evidence because I clearly had failed to make myself disappear off the radar,” Lynn can be heard saying, in his calm pragmatic manner during the police interview, which features in the podcast.

He also gives a detailed account of what happened the night of the deaths and, when they were not found, what led him to go back and burn the bodies 8 months later.

Lynn said: “My profession is working out decision making pathways, and you might think; well, made a terrible one here; but quick decisions to try to come to the best outcome, that’s what I do.”

After Greg Lynn’s arrest, ABC journalists began to receive messages about his past.

“There’s more you need to know,” one said, “Call me.”

One of those journalists was Brown who said her intuition told her to take the messages seriously. Many knew Greg Lynn’s first wife, Lisa Lynn.

“I thought this kind of violence usually doesn’t come out of nowhere, it’s often practised and honed, and I wondered if there were clues of cruelty in his relationship with Lisa Lynn,” said Rachael.

Through exclusive interviews with friends and family of Lisa Lynn, the podcast uncovered earlier signs of a volatile temper and domestic abuse.

Unravel: Huntsman tells the story of Greg and Lisa’s marriage and tries to understand how this suburban dad and accomplished airline captain, who enjoyed pig hunting and camping, became a convicted murderer who admitted to burning the remains of two pensioners.

Greg Lynn’s is appealing against the High Country murder verdict.

All six episodes are available now on the ABC listen app or wherever Australians get their podcasts.
