When she played Frank Sinatra’s You Make Me Feel So Young on her first radio show, it was a case of life imitating art for Charlotte Vukivuki-Legge.

The latest presenter at Sydney community station 2RRR 88.5FM is something of a rarity in the modern world – a 17-year-old high school student who just happens to love jazz music.

Charlotte is the brand-new host of 2RRR’s Midday Jazz – Tuesday edition.

Growing up in Balmain, Charlotte says she was inspired by her grandparents’ love of Sinatra, plus her father and an aunt, both of whom played jazz music.

“I love jazz music because it relaxes me, it calms me; it’s just easier to listen to compared to modern pop music,” says Charlotte.

“I love Nina Simone, John Coltraine, Ella Fitzgerald, Colman Hawkins and Ella James, among others.”

“I feel inspired to bring Jazz music to a new generation.”

Station Manager Natalie de Silver says Charlotte came to Radio 2RRR through a school work experience program, initially with a view to being part of the station’s Youth Jukebox program.

“We were immediately impressed with Charlotte’s presentation skills, and when we found out she loved Jazz, we thought she might be the ideal person to fill a vacancy in our jazz roster.”

“We were thrilled when she accepted and what a performer Charlotte has turned out to be.”

Radio 2RRR Executive Chairman Dino Mancini says the station is proud of its track record in nurturing young talent, through the Youth Jukebox and other station initiatives aimed at young people.

“We are extremely grateful to our principal sponsor Bendigo Community Bank Homebush and North Ryde. Their generous support allows us to guide and encourage young talent like Charlotte.”

Charlotte says she hopes her experiences as a radio presenter will help fulfil her ambition to one day become an actor.
