Strange twist in Star FM Mackay’s burner phone promotion

Star 101.9 Mackay’s ‘Ring Ring Ka-ching’ promotion has had an unexpected twist.

The station is hiding a burner phone in Mackay and the Whitsundays. Listeners are given clues as to the phone’s location and if they find it before it rings out, they win a cash prize.

But on day two of the promotion, Star announcer Kaley-Jade Baker got a surprise.

“On my afternoon show I tried to make my first call for the day, but the person who found it decided to steal the phone instead.”
