Soda gone, Erin back next year on Mix 102.3 breakfast

Mark Soderstrom from Mix 102.3’s Erin Phillips & Soda for Breakfast show has signed off from the station.

Soad says it was a “tough decision” to finish up at Mix after eight years.

“It has been an enormous privilege to be invited into the cars, homes and workplaces of the station’s fantastic listeners and friends who I will miss dearly.

“I have been fortunate to have met some brilliant and inspiring people along the way and it is these relationships that I will cherish most about my time at Mix.”

ARN’s Chief Content Officer, Duncan Campbell said: “Soda has made an incredible contribution to Mix 102.3. I’d like to thank him for valuable input that has seen Mix 102.3 enjoy great rating success in the competitive Adelaide market. He leaves with our best wishes.”

Soda joined Mix 102.3’s breakfast team in 2014. Last year Erin replaced Jodie Oddy

Soda’s co-host Erin Phillips remains part of Mix 102.3’s breakfast team and ARN will make an announcement on the new breakfast show soon.

Earlier in the year the pair were unexpectedly off air for a while after Erin joined the show. At the time it was explained as giving the new show “time to breathe.” At the time Soda told Mediaweek: “I don’t come from a radio background. I didn’t start ‘til later and I didn’t even really come from a TV background. I was a school teacher and a fireman and all these different things, and I sort of stumbled into media probably by accident.”

The breakfast show was 4th in the market in the last survey of the year, with the station scoring 10.9% overall, in second place in the Adelaide market.

Why didn’t he say it was stay at home and spend more time with his family? Oh that’s right that excuse has already been used.

Very different from what the staff were told just before Xmas. No way he resigned. Just saying ?

Arn need to just syndicate KJ. Easy they rate well. Why spend all the money on crappy boring breakfast shows. It’s about time arn wake up and syndicate kJ. Rebrand 102.3 to kiss and 97.3 in Brisbane to kiss. Look at how well nova does because there branding is national. Same station name across the network.

Has any one realised that Chris DeZeldy is back in Adelaide with no job. Could the new breakky team be Ali Clarke, Chris DeZeldy and Erin Phillips doing sport? Long shot, but who knows?

Hey J,

That’s very kind of you mate, but I’ve never had a call to come back, and based on the deafening silence, I’d say that there is no intention to ever call me. YOu realize after many years away from radio, that the day you CHOOSE to leave, is the day you are forgotten but the audience and the like. In saying that, Jeff Burzacot is definitely the man to steer the ship home, along with Duncan. Both are amazing programmers and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them when I was there.

Ali, if it is to be the case is and has always been an incredible broadcaster and will be brilliant She will be an incredible mentor for Erin, who will be only so much better for the experience.

Whoever you are J, appreciate you think that highly of me and the name drop, but I think the days of radio are behind me.
