SEN’s record breaking month of podcasting

Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) has achieved a record-breaking month in March across its digital platforms.

Sports fans have head over to SEN’s app and website as the footy season kicked off to get sports news, information and opinions. 

As a result, SEN saw big increases in podcast downloads, digital audio streams, news article reads and video views as a result. 

SEN digital highlights in March 2022 include: 

  • 6.3m SEN Podcasts were downloaded, a 176% increase year on year, up from 2.3m in March 2021. This breaks the previous SEN record from the AFL Trade period in October last year by 18%.
  • SEN Breakfast with Gary LyonTim WatsonNathan Buckley (Mondays), Kane Cornes & David King (Fridays) had 1.9m podcast downloads, up 61% on the show’s previous best month in September 2021.
  • The Whateley podcast, hosted by SEN’s Gerard Whateley had 1.8m podcast downloads in March, a 77% increase on the show’s previous best month, also in September 2021 
  • 1.7m Audio Streams across the SEN App and sen.com.au, this is up 92% on February 2022 and up 56% from March 2021. 
  • Audio Stream consumption grew in all parts of the country with VIC up 10%, NSW up 41%, QLD up 31%, SA up 10%, WA up 51% and TAS up 31% (March 2022 v March 2021 YOY) 
  • Sports fans listened to 62 million minutes of content on the SEN App, up 74% month on month, and up 23% from March 2021 
  • SEN’s News Article reads jumped 49% from February and grew by 26% from March 2021 
  • There were 5.9m views of SEN content that is filmed in our radio studios, edited and distributed across the app, website and social platforms (excluding Facebook), this is up 6% YoY. 

SEN’s Digital Director, Simon Chapman said, “The desire for sports content both live and on-demand continues to grow at a massive rate.” 

“Our record-breaking month of podcast downloads in addition to the growth in streaming demonstrates the appetite all over the country for sports content and SEN is an important source of ball-by-ball coverage, interactive discussion and breaking sports news.”
