SAFM’s Mark Soderstrom to step away from Breakfast radio

Adelaide media personality and SAFM host Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom has announced on-air that he is stepping away from breakfast radio.
In a candid moment alongside co-host Rebecca Morse, Soderstrom yesterday revealed to listeners that he is currently facing what he describes as the biggest challenge of his life.
Soderstrom said he was left with no choice but to go.
“I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and it’s been pretty tough,” he said.
“It’s not even a decision I have to make. It’s something I have to do because I have a fair bit on my plate.”
Soderstrom, who joined Morse on SAFM’s Breakfast show at the beginning of 2023, told listeners how much he loved his job and wished he didn’t have to leave.
A former champion footballer with 125 SANFL games under his belt, Soderstrom previously co-hosted Mix 102.3’s brekky show for nearly a decade.
The Advertiser (subscription required) reports that Soderstrom, who has a young family, will remain on air until the end of the year and also continue his role as weekday sports presenter with 7NEWS Adelaide.
I wonder SCA tap him on the shoulder. I can see a whole new breakky show on both safms in South Australia.
I wonder if they would even put a local breakfast show in the limestone coast.
Possibly a return to breakfast radio for the legendary Sean Craig Murphy is on the horizon? That would be big for SAFM’s breakfast (and maybe even overall) ratings and Adelaide radio in general.
Ben and Liam back to Adelaide then?
They need fresh voices. Abby Smith should be their newsreader. Quick wit and funny without trying, not like these other ones who have done years of radio and are past their prime.
Ali Clarke and Shane Lowe. They were so good together on Mix. Listeners love them.
Lowe is stll one of the most talented, creative and original announcers.
I’m hearing that the 2025 lineup is going to include at minimum, an overpaid aging duo, a simple footy player, and a producer who hopes they take a chance on anything but.
Ben and Liam need to move back to Adelaide this is the perfect job for them.
The Mix team may be looking for a home if rumours of Kyle and Jackie O are true.
