Red Symons is returning to radio on 3AW
Red Symons will be back behind the mic this summer for a brief stint on 3AW Mornings.
Former ABC host Symons is set to fill-in for Neil Mitchell for a week commencing December 30.
He’s spent time away from radio since being replaced on ABC Melbourne by Sami Shah and Jacinta Parsons two years ago. Shah and Parsons were themselves axed last week.
Symons has spent much of the last two years acting as a regular guest on Macquarie’s 3AW.
Mitchell confirmed on air this morning (Monday, December 2) that Symons would be stepping in for a week as he takes a break. Following that, Nine’s Tony Jones and 3AW’s Heidi Murphy will take over hosting duties until Mitchell returns to Mornings.
“Both [Jones & Murphy] are hard-nosed news-driven presenters. This one is different. For one week… in the chair: Red Symons!” said Mitchell.
“Think of it like lending a car to a friend,” responded Symons. “You’ll come back and there’ll be a scratch on the car, maybe a flat tyre.”

Another reason not to listen to 3AW over summer.
I m so excited about Red filling in for Neil.
Not his thing I thing. Been replaced by Craig Willis…Wednesday. Not hard nosed enough for the bushfire situation it seems. Sounded bored to me….I like Red but not for this time slot.
A big mistake 3AW Red Symons is not a good replacement for Neil . Too ‘wishy washy’ ! Turning off
