Rebel braces for Ita’s impact

Aaron Jowitt from Rebel FM has sent us this quick report on what they are preparing for when Cyclone Ita hits in the early hours of tomorrow.

"Cyclone Ita's projected path is tracking directly over the top of the Rebel 99.3 transmission site at Mt Tully 5km west of town. Our site was engineered to withstand 205 kmph winds, but we are expecting up to 300 kmph and plenty of flying debris."

"The Rebel tower and the big white dish is a landmark seen from miles around, which I thought was a good thing when we built it, but today feeling it's quite exposed compared to the local ABC & TV sites down in town."

Aaron tells us that all of the radio stations up there are working together to ensure vital information is available to the local community.
