Radio Today Podcast: SCA enters talk radio battle & RT vs Keyboard Warriors
Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) made the bold move to enter the talk radio battleground this week with a new Steve Price show, Australia Today, distributed via its LiSTNR platform.
Is this just the beginning of SCA’s push to attract a different demographic? Is this the start of ‘interactive’ podcasting and a new style of digital audio for older Australian listeners? And should Nine Radio be worried about the new competitive force as it attempts to shift the dial on perceptions of talk radio and the traditional “AM/FM” battle?
Plus – WAKE UP, SHEEPLE – we delve into mounting criticism that Radio Today is “too woke”, and that politics has no place in a B2B radio podcast. We address our favourite (and least favourite) comments after backlash from last week’s episode, and also delve into whether Jake was really attacked by a deadly snake.
Leave us a comment below if we’ve made you mad, sad or glad – or if you’d simply like to vent your frustration that the Lube Mobile jingle will be back in your head forever more.
Radio Today Tonight is back for 2021, coming to you each Thursday – except next week, when it will be Friday (sorry) – mixing the biggest news of the week, along with a discussion of all the personalities, politics and pressures involved in the audio industry.
It will be jointly hosted by Radio Today editor Vivienne Kelly and publisher Jake Challenor.

I was really enjoying the podcast and the discussion about SCA and Steve Price, but I nearly fell off my chair when Vivienne said the people who post comments here are a “bunch of white people”
I am a person of colour and this is so offensive to me on so many levels
What? Anyone who criticises Vivienne must be a white person?
Oh my goodness
I can’t see the Steve Price show working on that platform. Do they get any calls?
I had a listen to the Steve Price thing and I agree with Jake that it is good content but it felt like I was the only one listening
I am uncomfortable with the suggestion that someone’s opinion must relate to their skin colour – sounds a bit racist to me
I think Viv needs to realise you can’t defeat racism by making racist comments yourself
