Radio Ratings: KOFM on top in Newcastle with Tanya & Steve at brekkie

Staff Writer

Southern Cross Austereo’s KOFM has topped the latest GfK survey in Newcastle, collecting 15% of the market.

Sister station Hit106.9 trails with 13% (-0.1%) and ABC1233 is also on 13% (+1.4%), increasing audience share in the 25-39 demo by 5.4%.

Caralis-owned 2HD is Newcastle’s favourite commercial AM station, holding steady at 8.7%.

KOFM’s Tanya & Steve are #1 at breakfast, they pulled 17.8% (+1.6%).

Radio heavyweights Hamish & Andy topped the drive shift in Newcastle with 19.2% (-0.5%).

“Today sees another dominant result for both our radio stations,” said SCA NSW general manager Ashley Myatt. “Tanya & Steve’s further increase in breakfast makes me very proud, as does the big workday increases on both Hit106.9 and KO FM.”

Survey Period: Sun Mar 19 to Sat Apr 15 and Sun May 14 to Sat Jun 3 and Sun Jun 18 to Sat Jul 8 and Sun Jul 16 to Sat Jul 29.

Another complete disaster for NEW FM. Lowest breakfast share for many many years. Hit106.9 not much better given they’ve had 2 years to get it together and are still way behind the pack. Strong figures for the ABC with Garth Russell proving to be a hit on brekky. KOFM has little or no competition, however, they’ve now taken 2 big hits in a row in a Drive, which is their weakest shift by far. So sad to see 2HD performing so poorly after their glory years in the 90’s.

Just as well Caralis doesn’t read Survey data. Those figures for NEW and HD just keep getting worse. NEW have had the same guy on breakfast for 20 years and they’ve never rated. Must be a record in a competitive market !
