Paul Murray on his love of talkback radio

Staff Writer

This week on You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere (#YGSS), Rachel Corbett chats to television and radio host, Paul Murray.

One of the industries most versatile performers, Paul has worked successfully across the AM and FM bands, hosting shows for NOVA, Triple M and 2UE. He currently fronts his own political panel show on Sky News, Paul Murray Live.

In this episode Paul talks about why he was drawn to talkback radio at such a young age and what he realised about the industry when he got into it, why he hates scripts and loves the autonomy of his current show and how he ended up hosting a national radio show for Triple J when he was only 14.

You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere is a podcast that goes behind the scenes of show business to prove there’s no such thing as an overnight success.

Each week Rachel chats with well-known media personalities about how they got into the business, how they’ve managed to stay there and what it takes to build a successful career. Subscribe to the podcast here.

Most TalkBack doesn’t work. If you record a couple of hours of talkack radio then edit out the callers who added nothing, you’d have huge gaps. The caller has to actually add something to the program. It is not a community service.
TalkBack borders on awful. A must to avoid.
Interviewing interesting people – that’s another story…
