Paul Jackson presents Benztown webinar this week
Ex-Nova Chief Programming & Music Content Officer Paul Jackson is joining Benztown and P1 Media Group to present a free webinar this Thursday.
The webinar titled: ‘How to Be Creative, Have Fun & Create Two Massive Brands – What We Can Learn From Radio in Australia,’ is hosted by Benztown CEO Andreas Sannemann and P1 Media Group’s Ken Benson and will feature Jackson.
Paul Jackson started his radio journey at a young age in Glasgow, Scotland, where his father worked on Radio Clyde.
Following in his footsteps, Jackson landed his first PD position in Kent, England, followed by BRMB in Birmingham. He was then elevated to Regional Program Director.
He then moved to London, becoming Chief Exec and Programme Director at Virgin Radio, and Group Programme Director role at Capital FM and X-FM.
Finally, Jackson moved to Sydney, Australia, where he spent the last 12 years building the Nova and Smooth brands before quitting this year to create a radio consultancy.
In the 40-minute webinar, Jackson will share some insights including:
- What it was like to work for Virgin Radio in the UK, including a look at Richard Branson’s ‘Challenger Mentality.’
- How he took Nova from last place to first place in Sydney.
- How he launched the Smooth Network, an AC brand in Sydney and Melbourne – and grew the audience from a 2% share to over an 11% share, driving the station to #1 in both metros.
- How he convinced Michael Bublé and later, Sam Smith, to be the face of Smooth’s marketing.
- What role imaging has played in building his successful radio brands.
- What contemporary music trends he sees in Australia, and how he is optimizing them.
The seminar will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 10:00am PST/1:00pm EST/6:00pm CET.

“Quitting this year to create a radio consultancy brand”
Sure
Lucky it’s not a webinar on leadership or treating staff and talent with respect.
“How he took Nova from last place to first place in Sydney.”
Yes, Paul, please tell us how that happened?
Nova was never last and it has certainly never been first in Sydney. It’s been right in the middle of the pack from the day he arrived. Looking forward to the revisionist history on this one.
“Ex-Nova” is doing quite a bit of heavy lifting
The Nova ‘worst to first’ PR isn’t supported by the facts. When Paul went to Nova 969 the ratings/FM ranking for Nova 969 in the previous 3 surveys had been;
S8-2010 – 7.9 and #2
S7-2010 – 7.0 and #3
S6-2010 – 7.1 and #3
S5-2010 – 7.2 and #3
His first survey running the show was S1-2011.
He did do very well with Smooth though, credit where due for that.
I’ve got a giant webinar coming up.
Not the best of looks.
Bit soon ?
I hear Paul is still “ consulting “ Nova and Smooth. Is that true ?
This will be funny…. How did ‘YOU’ do it champion?
That list of topics shows that he honestly believes his own ego. How ironic given his ‘beliefs’ are the reason he is no longer working anywhere
My prediction is one attendee for the webinar- Paul Jackson.
Well this is all brilliant.
