Macquarie and ACMA in court

Staff Writer

The Macquarie Radio Network is taking ACMA to court over the new rules forcing it to disclose on-air sponsorship agreements.

The new rules were outlined last month, and require radio announcers to declare if they, or the station they work for, is receiving consideration from a sponsor.

The change was brought in to close the 'Jones' loophole which meant that as a shareholder in Macquarie he was not required to disclose sponsors relationships, as the commercial arrangement was with the licensee rather than Jones as an individual.

Macquarie have argued that the rules are draconian and target 2GB and Alan Jones specifically.

The court case is underway today.
