Oops – news bulletin interrupted by SFX (AUDIO)

A ‘technical mistake’ was to blame after sound effects being played over a news bulletin on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.

The report about the Oscar Pistorius trial was broadcast complete with a woman’s screams and then crowd booing noises as the newsreader said ‘he admits shooting Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day last year’.

A BBC spokesperson has said: “There was a technical mistake where sound effects being prepared in another studio for an unrelated item were accidentally broadcast over the news bulletin. We apologised for the error immediately afterwards.”
