New station for Canberra … and the world

Reporter

After 25 years of playing the songs on radio he’s been told to play – sometimes in reverse numerical order from 30 to 1 and often the same artist more than once during a shift – Canberra radio stalwart Nige has finally been given his own station … and he’s playing whatever he feels like playing.

Launching today at midday, NIGE! Is Canberra’s newest DAB+ station and addition to the iHeartRadio and LiSTNR apps.

It is a product of the amplifyCBR stable of brands.

In order to avoid any confusion about the format of NIGE!, the station follows a set of rules set out by the man himself, which include:

Nige ONLY plays the music he feels like playing.

No James Reyne.

Nige does not play commercials; they get in the way of the music.

Nige does not take requests. He plays the music HE wants to hear.

Nige likes to have a laugh. If you don’t think it’s funny, that’s your fault.

Nige does not set out to offend but often succeeds, nonetheless.

You can’t call Nige, you can only email him, and even then, he probably won’t even read the email, so don’t bother.

The NIGE! Website also launches today, where listeners can get in touch with him and purchase NIGE! Merch via the online store.

Fans of Nige shouldn’t be concerned that he’s disappearing from the Canberra Breakfast airwaves. He’ll still be on the MIX 105.3 Breakfast show Kristen & Nige every weekday morning.
