Neil Mitchell to host 3AW’s Victorian election night coverage

Neil Mitchell will host a special program on 3AW tomorrow (Saturday) from 6.00pm, featuring in depth analysis of the Victorian state election.

Joining him in the studio will be Labor’s Luke Donellan and the Liberals’ Brad Battin, together with political historian and lecturer in History and Politics at Deakin University, Geoff Robinson.

Also featuring on the program will be former Premiers of both major parties, including John Brumby, Ted Baillieu, Steve Bracks and Denis Napthine.

Mitchell predicts a close battle between Daniel Andrews and Matthew Guy, which is expected to mean a long night before results are known.

For a man who gets up early every day and is often asleep by 8.30pm, how will Mitchell cope with hosting a program that could last until midnight?

“I’ll cope because it will be fascinating,” he says.

“I promise not to doze off, unless a politician starts waffling. Usually they don’t waffle on election night. Instead, they get half tanked and spray anybody they don’t like. It is always unpredictable – both the results and the reactions. This time, anything could happen.”
