Macquarie Media’s national executive producer, Michael Thompson, is ending his time with the radio network.

New managing director of Nine radio, Tom Malone, announced the news today, revealing that Thompson will finish up this Friday, November 22 after 11 years at Macquarie.

“I first came to know Michael through my role at the Today Show when he was producing Ray and they won many awards together, and I’ve always enjoyed working with him,” said Malone.

“In the past 12 months, under Michael’s leadership, the company’s total cumulative audience has grown almost 10%.”

Thompson started out at Macquarie as working on Ray Hadley’s Mornings program. He rose to become Hadley’s executive producer, spending almost six years on the show in total.

In mid-2016 he was promoted to the role of national executive producer and has spent the last three years looking after Macquaries content on both news talk and sports talk formats.

“I want to thank Michael for all of his hard work, professionalism and loyalty to Macquarie Media and wish him well as he explores opportunities beyond our business,” said Malone.

Thompson’s departure comes in the wake of several staffing changes to take place since Malone took charge of Nine’s radio assets, with 3AW station manager re-instated earlier this week.

3AW Overnight host Alan Pearsall was axed from Macquarie last week.
