Meet the Judges for the 2022 Radio Today Podcast Awards, Pt. 2 

Welcome to the second part of our Meet the Judges instalment, highlighting the industry professionals judging the 2022 Radio Today Podcast Awards

Last week we introduced the first wave of our judges taking part in judging the podcasting talent vying for our top spots.

This latest unveiling brings another strong line-up of guest judges using their industry experience to find the best entrants entered in the awards.

Judging will remain underway until August 14th, before the finalists are announced on Monday, August 15th.*

Let us introduce you to our next wave of judges:

Grant Tothill: 

Grant Tothill is currently the Executive Head of Podcasting for LiSTNR.

Over the past six years, Grant has led the development and growth of Original Podcasting with PodcastOne Australia and in February 2021, the change to LiSTNR podcasts, driving the LiSTNR podcast network and playing an active role in the growth of LiSTNR.

As LiSTNR podcasts scales its original slate, Grant now oversees five major podcast verticals – Entertainment and Culture, Sport, News and Information, Factual and Drama and Parenting and Kids Entertainment.

LiSTNR Podcasts now has the biggest Podcast producing teams in the Southern Hemisphere.

Prior to LiSTNR Podcasts, Grant was the General Manager of Digital Audio SCA, the Head of PodcastOne Australia and the Head of the Triple M network, being an early member of the content team that developed the Rock Sport and Comedy format.

Dave Carter:

Dave is a highly experienced and award-winning creative producer, having spent more than 30 years creating engaging radio, television, and podcast content.

Highly experienced across all aspects of broadcast media and media production, Dave heads up the team at Media Heads, personally managing the company’s end-to-end production process and getting involved in projects from the initial creative concept through to final delivery.

Dave’s worked on a wide range of content for numerous national clients and media organisations and is fascinated by people and their stories.

He is passionate about helping people share unique stories with mainstream audiences and is also highly regarded as one of the nicest people in the biz.

Jennifer Goggin:

Jennifer Goggin is the Head of Factual and Drama Content for LiSTNR Original Podcasts

Since joining SCA in 2018, Jen has been responsible for commissioning and developing their original podcast content, as well as growing and developing their internal production team. 

She has created over 55 original Australian podcasts across the genres of, Comedy, Business, Health & Fitness, Finance, Parenting, Crime and Audio Fiction.

Prior to joining SCA, Jen worked for BBC Radio where she produced award-winning live radio, history series, and audio documentaries, which have been broadcast across BBC, ABC and RTÉ

Jen saw an opportunity in the emerging medium of podcasting in 2012 and has been producing podcasts ever since.

Abe Udy

Abe is the founder of the audio production company Abe’s Audio

Originally specialising in production for radio, TV and online content, the business has expanded to provide podcast advice and production expertise.

From startup podcasts to well-established shows, Abe and his team have worked with podcasters large and small, helping them create shows their audiences love.

Valerie Geller:

President of Geller Media International, Valerie works with more than 500 TV/Radio stations throughout the world, training broadcasters and podcasters to create powerful content and “NEVER BE BORING.” 

After a radio career as a program director in New York, news director in San Francisco, and executive producer in LA, she turned to training and consulting and hasn’t looked back. 

“It’s all the story business,” says Valerie.

In Australia, she has lectured at AFTRS, presented at CRA’s Radio Alive events and trained presenters and producers at SBS and the ABC

Valerie is a board member of the New York Festivals International Radio Awards and is the author of five how-to books on growing and engaging broadcast and podcast audiences, her latest, Beyond Powerful Radio.

Named by Radio Ink as one of the Most Influential Women in Broadcasting, Valerie works one-on-one with individuals and holds seminars and workshops. 

Del Fordham:

Del is the Head of Audio at News Corp Australia.

With over 20 years experience in audio content creation Del was the first hire into NewsCast’s on-demand audio team in late 2019.

Today, Del oversees the audio content creation for brands such as The Australiannews.com.au, True Crime Australia, The Herald Sun, Vogue Australiakidspot.com.au and BODY + Soul.

The podcasts in Del’s network include The Front, The Teacher’s Trial, I Catch Killers, Browny’s Podcast, The Matty Johns Podcast, Something To Talk About with Samantha Armytage and Bikies Inc.

Del also oversees the integration of NCA’s content into smart speakers and the on-platform UX, windowing and locking strategies employed around NCA’s consumer first audio.

More judges will be announced before the judging process is completed on August 15th.

  • Judging Period: Monday, July 25 to Sunday, August 14

Judging Process:
• The awards have a specially curated judging panel, formed by mixing peers with those elsewhere in the value chain, to make sure that the judgement is informed and considered from all relevant sides of the industry
• Radio Today will publish the full list of judges during the entry period
• Judges will be required to score each submission against specific criteria
• This system makes sure that each and every judge will score every allocated entry, and allows the editorial team to identify any potential bias or inconsistencies
• Judges are able to recuse themselves from entries if necessary. The process is designed to be transparent and fair to all parties.
