Former 2DayFM breakfast host Maz Compton ready for second hit

Maz Compton has announced her long-awaited reunion with commercial radio.

The former Hit Network Drive host and 2DayFM Breakfast personality will join Daniel ‘Gawndy’ Gawned to host the early morning shift across NSW while Ash Pollard is on maternity leave.

A Southern Cross Austereo spokesperson confirmed the news, saying the broadcaster is “happy to welcome Max Compton back” to the Hit Network. She starts on-air today (September 7).

Gawned, Pollard and Compton revealed the changes on Monday’s show just before 8am. She will cover for Pollard for six months, who is due to give birth soon.

“A big thank you to Ash for all her amazing work on air these past two years. We wish Ash all the very best for the pending arrival of her new baby and look forward to welcoming her back.”

One half of the Hit Network Drive show, Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes, called into the show to welcome Compton back to radio. They also discussed the Melbourne lockdowns and The Masked Singer.

After being poached by SCA from Nova and given a solid run on Drive around the country, Dan & Maz made the move to primetime in 2015 on 2Day FM, before being moved to weekends.

Compton has since been away from the microphone for over three years. She left SCA with on-air partner Dan Debuf in December 2016, even writing a book about her exit from the Sydney station.

As first reported by Radio Today last month, SCA axed 19 regional breakfast shows in favour of one state-based breakfast show following a major cost-cutting restructure.

Gawndy & Maz are on all Hit NSW stations, except Sydney and Newcastle which remain local.

Why not replace the Sydney and Newcastle breakfast shows as well?

Seriously – if this is such a good move – then go the whole way.

So many changes. So little time to care any more.

Can I give the SCA execs a bit of help, if you are going to kill off a heap of hit breakfast shows and then throw someone the fill in on the show that has replaced them all, and it HAS to be someone who has been out of the game for a while… could you announce it before the deaths????? Because if you were part of a duo. Flogging away for a bigger market, you see someone just waltz back in, you would be pretty down on things. Maz is a gun by the way love her!

GAWNY and MAZ

VERY POOR FORM today Gawny and Maz … show some class.
The carry on about a persons age instead of their skill, really disappointing broadcasting.
Perhaps a little self reflection is in order.

Can’t stand the false laughter and the over use of “babe”! Please give it all a rest!
